Bardia, a remote area of South West Nepal close to the Indian border, is dominated by Nepal’s largest National park. Home to tigers, rhinos, leopards, and wild elephants, it’s like walking straight into Kipling’s Jungle Book. Fans of natural history programs will recognise the area from the many programs following the tigers and elephants.

Children from Bardia are challenged by the natural environment as much as the poverty gap that exists in Nepal. Monsoon rains are a particular challenge, as Bardia is on the flood plains of the vast North Indian continent. Devastating floods do occur, the 2025 floods were particularly bad, with many families left homeless, as was reported by the international press. Smaller annual floods can cause some of the children to miss school. The children must receive a top education if they are to keep up with children from less challenging areas.

So far, we have worked with 2 large schools in the region, and we have given training and period kits to over 900 girls.

In 2025, we completed installing computer labs at both schools. The uptake has been wonderful to see as the teachers are now using the computers for more than IT classes. The children are now using the computer to research projects in other subjects. We plan to identify more schools to help in the future.

Mugu is the least developed region in Nepal, especially the north and west. Jaw-droppingly beautiful, rugged and remote, it’s a time capsule of thriving ancient traditions. Picturesque villages cling to steep mountain sides, children and chickens running free against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains. Life in this remote paradise comes at a high cost to the people who live there. No access to a modern education, no access to healthcare and no means to earn a living beyond subsistence farming or indentured work abroad. It’s no surprise then that this is one of the areas in Nepal where children are at the highest risk of being trafficked.

So far, we have worked with 1 large school in the region and several community schools. We have given training and period kits to over 400 girls. The effect is dramatic, the girls have the confidence to go to school, and their education is catching up with girls from more advantaged areas.

In 2025, we completed installing a computer lab at Gamgadi school, the largest school in the region. Most of the children here are borders from remote villages, between 5 hours and 2 weeks walk away. By choosing to help this school, we are also helping some of the remotest living people on earth. The children share their new knowledge with friends and family when they visit home each year.
